Firefighters called to a warehouse fire said they discovered an elaborate marijuana grow operation in Tacoma.
Fire crews were called around 10:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of a fire in a 1928 warehouse building at Jefferson Avenue near South Fawcett Avenue.
When they entered the building, they found a large amount of marijuana plants and what looked like a grow operation, fire officials said.
Police were summoned to the warehouse and remained at the scene nearly seven hours after the initial call, collecting big burlap bags of plants and other evidence from inside the building and placing them into the back of the Clandestine Lab Team van.
During an Internet search overnight, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Rick Price found that the 14,000-square foot building was listed for sale in October for $750,000. The listing called the property the Mayco Fish Building.
It's unclear if the building sold.
