Tacoma's City Manager To Retire

TACOMA, Wash. —

Tacoma City Manager Ray Corpuz -- who has been a central figure in the investigations into the murder-suicide of the police chief and his wife -- is planning to retire.

Corpuz has written a letter to City Council members stating his intent to retire after the investigations are complete. No specific date was given.

Corpuz voluntarily went on paid administrative leave after Tacoma Police Chief David Brame fatally shot his wife and then killed himself more than two weeks ago.

Feds Assisting Brame Investigation

Meanwhile, federal officials are joining the investigation of the murder-suicide. U.S. Attorney John McKay says the preliminary investigation found a possible violation of federal criminal law.

State Attorney General Christine Gregoire and State Patrol Chief Ronal Serpas asked the FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office to join the investigation to assure public confidence in a thorough and independent investigation.

The shooting raised questions about how police responded to abuse complaints from Crystal Brame and how David Brame was hired and promoted despite an unfavorable psychological evaluation when he was hired and a rape allegation 16 years ago.
