SEATTLE —

Terrified partygoers who were hiding in a Capitol Hill home after a gunman went on a shooting rampage called 911 and described the chilling sights and sounds at the scene.

"They are on the porch, lying there in a puddle of blood and there is still shots being fired around here," one caller can be heard saying on 911 tapes released by police on Thursday.

One caller inside the home whispered to a dispatcher. "I hear a bunch of screaming upstairs now," he said.

"I don't want you to move. I want you to stay where you are at," the dispatcher replied.

Another caller said three survivors were trapped in the basement.

"We need a bunch of officers around here real quick and some ambulances. There are at least four or five people that are shot," the caller said.

Upstairs, a young man and his girlfriend hid inside a bathtub.

"All of the sudden, I heard gunshots go off, so I locked the bathroom door and, like, I heard it was a gunshot," the man said. "He shot a bullet. He tried to get into the bathroom. I locked the door."

One girl hid in the living room just a few feet from the gunman.

"There are people shot in the face," she said, whispering. After the dispatcher said she couldn’t hear the caller, the girl said "I can’t talk right now."

As the first officer arrived at the scene, he reported to a 911 dispatcher, "I am at Republican, man has fired gun ... man shot himself in head, man is down."

A witness on the phone with dispatch described the scene as the officer arrived. "The man just shot himself in the face; the officer just saw it. He's a hero," the witness said.

One officer at the scene called to dispatch, "Let's get additional units; let's get this block closed off. We've got three or four victims down inside the house!"

As more officers arrived at the scene, they found more victims. "We've got another victim; we've got two or three more," the tape said.
