Tax Day 'Tea Parties' Across Washington

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

Anti-tax protesters planned their biggest rally at the state Capitol while others demonstrate across Washington as part of the national Tax Day Tea Party.

The State Patrol estimated the noon crowd at more than 5,000 people.

Organizers want to give lawmakers in Olympia tea bags to recall the Boston Tea Party of 1773.

The Olympia rally is organized by a coalition of conservative groups. They are protesting government spending, rising taxes, and what they call the "bailout mentality" of President Barack Obama's economic recovery package.

Victor Meyers of Kent dressed like a Revolutionary War soldier with a tri-corner hat. He says he's sick of taxes and hopes the size of the crowd drives home that message to Gov. Chris Gregoire.

There are a number of signs in the crowd: "Socialism never succeeds," "Nazis were socialists too," and "I am not your ATM."

Local group Conservative Enthusiasts also held a rally in front of Bellevue's City Hall.
