Teacher Killed In Apparent Murder-Suicide

ENUMCLAW, Wash. —

Counselors will be on hand at a Bonney Lake elementary school after a third-grade teacher and her husband were found dead Friday night in what police said was an apparent murder-suicide.

Police said they found Amy and Zachary Erwin, both 42, dead of apparent gunshot wounds at about 7:30 p.m. A handgun was found at the scene, police said.

Police said Amy Erwin was going out for a girls' night out Friday but when she didn't show, her friends became concerned. Police checked on her at her Enumclaw home and found the couple dead in their basement.

Amy Erwin taught at Victor Falls Elementary in Bonney Lake, where parents and community members brought flowers over the weekend.

They said her students will remember her hugs and smile.

Jodi Borrelli, the parent of a student at the school, knew Erwin was going through a divorce and would often ask her how she was doing.

"Still with a smile on her face she's like you know, I'm getting through just would take everything day by day and just would always have the positive. You never knew that things were this bad," Borrelli said.

Police said they are not sure what could have let Zachary Erwin to shoot his wife, but officers found divorce papers at the scene.

The Erwins' two children were not at home at the time of the shooting, police said.
