Teen Fugitive Harris-Moore May Be Responsible For Orcas Island Burglary

EASTSOUND, Wash. —

An attempted burglary at an Ace Hardware Store on Orcas Island Sunday morning may be the work of infamous teen fugitive Colton Harris-Moore, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

San Juan County Sheriff Bill Cumming said police received a report of an alarm going off at the store in the village of Eastsound at 5:30 a.m.

Responding deputies found entry into the building had been made from the roof and a window was broken.

No property was stolen, presumably because the alarm sounded.

At about 7:30 a.m., a K-9 unit from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office was requested, and an air search was conducted, but the culprit was not found.

The break-in is the second at the store. The current alarm was installed after a burglary on Sept. 6, 2009.

Investigators believe preliminary evidence found at the scene suggests Harris-Moore is the prime person of interest in the case.

All evidence collected at the scene will be analyzed by the Washington State Patrol crime scene lab before police can name a suspect.

Cumming said the evidence will take several weeks to process.
