Teen nearly drowns in Federal Way lake



FEDERAL WAY, Wash. —

A 17-year-old boy was rescued Friday night in a public swimming area of a Federal Way park, according to South King Fire & Rescue.

 

The incident happened at the Steel Lake Park in the 2400 block of South 312th Street.

 

According to the South King Fire & Rescue public information officer, Assistant Chief Gordie Olson, the teen was seen struggling off shore and went under the water.

 

A rescue team reached the teen in 12 feet of water.

 

After crews got to the boy, they brought him to the surface of the water and rushed him to shore where CPR and resuscitation were performed by South King Medic One paramedics.

 

After 15 minutes of effort, medics were able to regain a heart rhythm.

 

The teen was taken to Harborview Medical Center, and his condition is unknown at this time.
