Teen Shot Near Federal Way High School

FEDERAL WAY, WASH. —

A teen was shot outside Federal Way High School at about 6:15 p.m. Thursday, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

Stacy Flores, spokesman for the Federal Way Police Department, said that a 13-year-old boy standing with a group of teens was shot by another teen that was with a second group of teens.

Witnesses said the shooting stemmed from a racially motivated fight between the two groups of teens.

Parents told KIRO that parent-teacher conferences were under way at the school when the shooting happened. The school was put on lockdown as police searched for the shooter, and witnesses told KIRO that people inside the school were taken to the gymnasium -- away from windows -- as a safety measure.

The crew on Chopper 7 reported that the shooting appeared to have occurred at an apartment complex across the street from Federal Way High School, which is located at 30601 16th Avenue South.

Pacific Highway South, also known as state Route 99, was closed in both directions near the school, according to KIRO TV's helicopter crew.

Federal Way police are asking for the public’s help, as they don’t have a very good description of the young shooter.

The boy who was shot is going to be OK.
