SEATTLE —

A group assaulted a man and stole his car early Sunday morning, and teenagers were taken into custody, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Police said a man parked his 2002 Toyota Camry in the 11200 block of 57th Avenue South after 3 a.m.

The man was approached by a woman who knocked on his window asking to use his phone, and when he looked up, he was sprayed in the face with pepper spray.

Police said the man was pulled out from his car and assaulted by seven to 10 people. The man was struck with stick, fists and shoes.

The man’s car was taken by the group and they drove off towards Beacon Avenue South, according to police.

The man was able to call 911 and received medical treatment. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center for his injuries.

Deputies with the King County Sheriff’s Office were in the area and stopped a group of people in the 11200 block of Beacon Avenue South.

The deputies detained the group until Seattle police arrived.

While police investigated, two officers saw the man’s car at 53rd Avenue South and South Augusta Street. The vehicle had blood and damage to the windshield.

When officers spotted the vehicle, the car sped up and turned into the driveway of a home in the 11100 block of Beacon Avenue South. The driver was taken into custody.

Police said the victim positively identified three of the suspects detained: a 15-year-old girl, a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy. The three were booked into the Youth Services Center for investigation of robbery and carjacking.

According to police, five to seven other people remain at large.

Detectives will conduct a follow up investigation.
