Televised High-Speed Chase Ends With Driver's Arrest

KIRKLAND, Wash. —

The chase lasted more than 30 minutes before the driver bailed out of a stolen car and surrendered to police, who surrounded him in Kirkland.

It all began when Bellevue police were chasing a stolen 1997 silver Honda Accord with disabled license plates late this afternoon.

With Chopper 7 orbiting overhead, police lost sight of the fleeing car. But Chopper 7 pilot Clark Stahl spotted the driver and followed him. Later, Stahl saw the man break into another car, apparently hot-wire it and flee.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News alerted police to the driver's location, and the chase was on again, with police following the speeding blue Subaru SVX through the streets of Kirkland.

The driver rammed a fence at a golf course and drove on the course before making it back to surface streets.

Eventually, he was cornered and gave himself up.
