Theft Suspect Avoids Capture After Chase, Crash

BURLINGTON, Wash. —

A man police said broke into homes, stole cars and assaulted an elderly woman is on the loose after crashing into a cornfield during a high-speed chase on Monday, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

The man and two women broke into a Burlington-area home earlier in the day, and were surprised by a resident, police said. A Burlington police officer later spotted the three and tried to pull them over, but they fled.

Police chased the car at high speeds until it crashed into a cornfield in rural Skagit County on Peterson Road near Highway 20.

Neighbors said sheriff's deputies arrested the two women, but the man escaped through a nearby field.

Authorities said the man then broke into another home, assaulted a woman and stole another car. The victim received medical attention and is recovering, investigators said.

The Skagit County Sheriff's Office said investigators have identified the suspect, but they are not releasing anymore details.
