Crews Begin Work On Flood-Damaged Highway 2

INDEX, Wash. —

State road crews began to stabilize a 130-foot section of Highway 2 on Monday that was damaged by heavy rains during storms last fall.

Crews drove 40-foot-long nails into the soil and began to build a drainage system to keep the hillside from eroding further and causing more damage east of Index.

Crews have closed one lane until noon on Friday, and alternate traffic is using a single lane until work is completed.
