Hogan's Blog: Tuesday Slick Roads

The roads were slick in several places Tuesday morning! Several alerts, mostly spin outs, started popping up just before 6am. Over the next hour more alerts flooded our computers all about icy roads. Commuters were advised to allow extra time and watch out for slick conditions.

The KIRO 7 traffic department placed any updates you needed to know right here.

This is what we saw:

Kitsap/Thurston/Pierce County: Icy roads were reported in several places

From WSDOT: It is icing up bad out there. Our crews are out but motorists need to be aware of icy conditions. If you are scraping off your windshield, most likely there is ice on the roadway as well. Sun comes up and the temp falls. Be very careful on bridges, overpasses and intersections

Slick conditions: Tacoma - I-5 at the Tacoma Dome, the DOT camera showed a vechile off the road.

Slick conditions: Parkland - At 149th and Brookdale in Parkland, there was a roll over accident. Chopper 7 went to look at this and saw a car on it's side. The street was closed down to one lane with traffic alternating in both directions.

Slick conditions: Olympia - SR 8 we heard of several spin outs

Slick conditions: Shelton - Hwy 101 and Arcadia Road - roll over reported

Slick conditions: Dupont - Center Drive overpass to I-5 at DuPont. Police responded to an accident in this area. Chopper 7 showed us this accident. We saw two vehicles that were disabled, along with icy conditions on the overpass.

Slick conditions: Orting/Graham/Eatonville - SR 161 ice all over - Roll over reported - 16800 Orville Road near Orting and Graham, a second one reported at Meridan Ave East and Webster Road. WSP drove over SR 161 and said there was ice everywhere.

Slick conditions: Tumwater - Numerous spin outs reported on the on and off ramps of I-5 at exit 101.

Slick conditions: Hwy 99 in Thurston a spin out was reported

Alert: WSDOT: A roll-over log truck blocked the northbound direction of SR 9 at Wickersham Street near Bellingham.

Alert: Renton - A Garbage truck had spun out on Cedar Grove Rd in Renton, just of SR 169.

520 - We kept an eye on the floating bridge all morning. Wind didn't seem to be a problem.

Surface streets in Bothell/Woodinville were still icy in areas.

Bellingham, Bremerton, Tacoma, Olympia - the KIRO 7 weather department warned of scattered showers, and we noticed the roads were wet on and off during the morning.

Pot hole rangers are patroling the city right now. If you see a pot hole on your way to work, give the city a call at 206-684-7623 and report the street.

Sounder: For the New Year's holiday Sounder will run on Holiday Schedule Wednesday (Dec. 31) and Friday (Jan. 2) and there will be no Sounder service on Thursday, Jan. 1. For more information, click on this link.

Have a question? Just Ask Jenni!

"Leaving at 7:30am to drive from Normandy Park through Tacoma, Bremerton, and Poulsbo to Hansville on the North end of the Kitsap Peninsula. I see your note about showers in Bremerton. Do you have any info on the bridge or other points north?" - Cheryl

Answer: I just spoke to Rick Van Cise in KIRO 7's weather department he says that rain is developing today and then it'll be windy tonight in that area. I hope this helps a little! Plus watch out for ice on surface streets. - Cheers, Jenni
