Washington State Department of Transportation officials announced the delay after movement in the rock above the roadway was detected.

Significant slide movement detected in the past 72 caused enough concern to force WSDOT crews to delay opening the road.

Also, predicted rainfall in the area during the next few days will extend the closure.

Before the rock movement was detected, WSDOT had planned to open SR 20 between Newhalem and Diablo between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.

Roadway use would be restricted to Diablo residents, emergency personnel, Seattle City Light staff, WSDOT crews, and National Park Service workers. A spotter on the scene would warn of any possible rockslides during that time.
