SEATTLE —

Road crews will begin permanent repairs next month on a section of Highway 2 that was damaged by a landslide in November, transportation officials said.

The record rains triggered a slide that caused the eastbound lane of the highway near Index to sink by over 7 feet.

Transportation crews put in a temporary fix, building a barrier, shifting traffic to the shoulder and limiting speeds to 35 mph.

Beginning Jan. 9, crews will start working on a 130-foot-long wall to hold up the hillside, and repave the stretch of roadway.
