The boy, identified as Marcus Morgan, was hit at 7:30 a.m. at the corner of 112th and Military Road, as the bus was turning a corner.

Morgan, a 7th grader, was killed instantly, Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer said.

Counselors were brought in to Mann Middle School, where the Morgan was a student.

Students placed flowers at a memorial near the scene.

Morgan was wearing headphones at the time of the accident and may not have heard the bus, witnesses told investigators.

Troyer said the bus had the green light and was making a lefthand turn when the boy was hit.

School officials said the 38-year-old bus driver is devastated.

"She's very upset and has had some counseling with the local sheriff's chaplins," said Kim Prentice, spokeswoman for the Cloverpark School District.

There were no students on the school bus at the time.
