Troopers Report 'Hot Spots' For Aggressive Driving


Washington State Patrol troopers, marking the one-year anniversary of a Web site that takes reports of aggressive driving, say they've given tickets or warnings to more than 44,000 aggressive drivers in 2005.

The State Patrol's Aggressive Driver Apprehension Team, made up of troopers driving unmarked cars -- was responsible for about a quarter of the stops.

The State Patrol has received more than 1,200 reports of aggressive driving in the past year, some of those over its Web site.

The state has identified 10 spots where troopers get the most reports of aggressive driving. Half of the locations are in King County.

While the high number may be due to higher awareness, the State Patrol hopes to whittle that number down, through a combination of awareness, changing behavior and punishing drivers that get caught.

"What we advise motorists to do (is) don't get caught up in the moment. Move out of their way, avoid eye contact, and if they continue doing something, call 911," said

Here are some of the "hot spots" that have been identified around the state:

I-5 between mileposts 117 - 137 in Pierce County SR-512 between mileposts 2 - 10 in Pierce County I-5 between mileposts 100 - 110 in Thurston County I-405 between mileposts 5 - 15 in King County I-5 between mileposts 140 - 150 in King County SR-167 between mileposts 10 - 20 in King County I-5 between mileposts 160 - 170 in King County I-90 between mileposts 1 - 10 in King County I-5 between mileposts 180 - 200 in Snohomish County SR-14 between mileposts 5 - 15 in Clark County
