Tukwila police look for person who stole license plates off their prison vans

TUKWILA, Wash. —

License plates were stolen from a prison transport van, and Tukwila police officers are looking for the person who took them.

According to the police, the plates were swiped early Friday.

Police said the thief also took the blue strobe lights out of the van's grille.

Officers are worried someone will use the equipment to try and impersonate a police officer.

"Our biggest concern is if somebody got those plates and those blue lights to impersonate an officer,” said Mike Murphy of the Tukwila Police Department.

The stolen plane number is 31213D.

If anyone spots the plates or is pulled over by someone whom they believe might not be a member of law enforcement, call 911.
