Twenty People Evacuated During Grass Fire

ROOSEVELT, Wash. —

The state patrol is sending firefighters and equipment to a grass fire in south-central Washington that's threatening more than a dozen homes.

Troopers say the 650-acre fire has prompted the evacuation of about 20 people. The blaze is in Klickitat County, in farm country just north of the town of Roosevelt.

The fire started this afternoon, at about 1:30 p-m. Trooper Greg Pressel says the evacuations were a safety measure, and it sounds like fire lines are holding up homes in the area.

Pressel also says winds have been only about ten miles per hour, and may stay low tomorrow.
