RENTON, Wash. —
The winner of a Twitter contest to support five local charities took delivery of a new Cadillac on Friday afternoon.
Elizabeth Miller, of Auburn, won the Brotherton Cadillac Race for a Ride giveaway event by sending "many, many tweets," each one an entry into the contest that helped raised money -- and Twitter followers -- for the Arthritis Foundation, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, the Moyer Foundation, Seattle Children's hospital and Special Olympics Washington.
"It has that new car smell," Miller said as she got into the 2011 Cadillac CTS sedan for the first time at Brotherton Cadillac in Renton.
"There was a point where I tweeted so many times within the hour that I got into Twitter Jail -- which you're actually locked down from tweeting," said Miller, who is a student at Green River Community College. "It was worth it, though."
"It was a good contest for everybody involved, and it really fit our mission for partnering with local organizations that impact our community," said Brad Brotherton, owner and president of Brotherton Cadillac.
Nearly 20,000 tweets mentioning #RaceForARide were sent during the contest, and the five nonprofit organizations saw an average increase of 30 percent in their Twitter followers during the campaign.
