Two Injured In Lake Union Boat Explosion

Seattle, Washington —

One person was hospitalized and another sustained minor injuries in an explosion and fire aboard a cabin cruiser tied to a fueling dock on the north end of Lake Union.

About two dozen fire trucks responded about 11:50 a.m. Saturday to a marina in the 2700 block of Westlake Avenue North. Westlake Avenue North was briefly closed.

Seattle Fire Department Deputy Chief Jesse Youngs said the injured person was taken to Harborview Medical Center. Department spokeswoman Dana Vander Howen said the hospitalized person sustained non-life threatening injuries. She said the other injured person did not have to be hospitalized. It wasn't immediately known whether the injured people were on the boat or on the dock.
