EVERETT, Wash. —
The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and a destroyer for its strike group, the Shoup, left their home port Monday morning at Everett.
The ships are headed for the western Pacific for a six-month deployment. The first stop is at San Diego to pick up the carrier air wing.
The Lincoln carries a crew of 3,300 and the Shoup, 320.
A year ago, the aircraft carrier returned from tsunami aid work in Southeast Asia, and the previous deployment was extended to more than 10 months for support of the war in Iraq.
