Victim Describes Purse Snatching, Attack

PUYALLUP, Wash. —

A man working with a teenage girl has attacked shoppers at two South Sound malls, stripping them of their purses and, in one case, punching and kicking a young teen, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Police said the most recent robbery happened Monday outside a JC Penny at South Hill Mall in Puyallup. A man pulled a purse from the hands of a 62-year-old woman and fled.

A girl who was robbed at South Hill Mall last week told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that she was walking with her brother when she was attacked by a teenager who was not much older than she and who was apparently being encouraged by a man.

Diana Garcia, 14, said she thought the girl was picking a fight, but then realized she was going after her purse.

"She, like, punched me on the face a couple times," Garcia said.

Garcia said she fell to the ground, and the girl kicked her and stole her Coach purse.

Monday's attack happened in the same part of the South Hill Mall parking lot. The 62-year-old shopper also carried a Coach purse.

Police said surveillance video showed the robber is the same man involved in three other attacks.

He is black, 19 or 20 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall, with braided hair beneath a baseball cap. He was wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt under a white, waist-length coat and black pants.

Puyallup police warned female shoppers, especially those who carry expensive purses, to be on the lookout for this man and his accomplice.
