SEATTLE —

An armed man who was shot and killed by a King County sheriff's sergeant had a warrant out for his arrest, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported.

Samuel Curry, 21, was fatally shot when the off-duty officer saw an armed robbery in progress, according to officials, on Friday night near the Pike Place Market.

Curry failed to appear in court for a probation hearing on Jan. 10.

The officer was a 61-year-old sergeant with 38 years of service in the department. He is on routine administrative leave until the investigation is resolved.
