Wash. Man Volunteering In Haiti Dies

SEATTLE —

A 36-year-old Washington man died from cardiac arrest in Haiti, said Medical Teams International.

Matthew Bouthillier was volunteering with Medical Teams International in Haiti and had been treating earthquake survivors since Feb. 20.

Bouthillier died at the University of Miami field hospital in Port-Au-Prince on Monday. The circumstances surrounding his death are not known.

Bouthillier worked as an emergency-room nurse at Swedish Medical Center in Issaquah.

Bouthillier’s mom, Dale Bouthillier, said her son graduated from Pacific Lutheran University and also spent four years in the Army Nurse Corps.

She said the photo of him feeding a baby was the last one taken of him.
