Wife Of Accused Teacher Speaks Out

ROY, Wash. —

The wife of a Tacoma high school teacher accused of sex with a student said she wants her husband to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Wife Of Accused Teacher Speaks Out

In an interview with KIRO 7 Eyewitness News, the wife of teacher Ron Bauer said she feels humiliated and is embarrassed by what her husband is accused of doing.

"I guess I had vibes. I had vibes that there was something not right," she told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News Reporter Deborah Horne.

Her feelings led her to hire a private investigator to confirm her suspicions that her husband, a 50-year-old father of two and stepfather of three, was involved with a 16-year-old student at Stadium High School in Tacoma who was in his health class.

The student is now pregnant.

"I wanted to be sure that there was actually something going on and it wasn't just something I was thinking that was going on," she said. "I wanted proof."

Question: "Did he find them together?" Answer: "Yes, he did."

At his first court appearance Tuesday, Ron Bauer pleaded not guilty to raping his young student. His bail was set at $10,000.

Hours later, he showed up at his wife's house, but he drove off without talking to us.

What he is accused of doing, says his wife, is an abomination.

"It makes me sick and I just I don't want this to happen to anyone else, another student. You're supposed to trust your teachers, and you can't," she said.

His wife filed for divorce in May. Their divorce will be final in August.

After that, she says she will fight for a new law in Washington state that will make it a crime not just to have sex with children under 16, but to have sex with anyone 18 years or younger.
