OLYMPIA, Washington —

The man accused of molesting two 6-year-old girls on an Olympia school bus told his wife, "I'm sick in the head and I need help," according to probable cause documents released Friday.

Law enforcement sources told KIRO 7 on Thursday that 32-year-old Gary Shafer was serving as an assistant on the bus in December when the incidents occurred. Shafer was moving about the school bus with the children as another employee drove the bus when the molestation of the two girls occurred, the Thurston County Sheriff's Office said.

Shafer's wife told police that her husband told her about the allegations and initially said they were not true, according to the documents.

Later, however, Shafer told his wife that the allegations were "technically" true, but that there was no intention, his wife told police. Shafer said he had touched the girls, but that "it was an accident and there was no 'ill will' or 'pre-meditation,'" according to the documents.

Shafer's wife told police that she later found what she thought was child pornography on his computer. When she confronted him about it, Shafer "became visibly nervous and...told Ms. Shafer (his wife) that he needed to go in and confess, he said he needed to go to jail and get some help."

Shafer's wife also told police that Shafer said, "he needed to be away from people, he said 'I need help' and 'I'm sick in the head and I need help.'"

Shafer "called several people (after that) ... and told them he lied when he said he didn't do anything to the girl on the bus," Shafer's wife said, according to the documents.
