Wild Chase, Crash and Videotaped Capture

SEATTLE —

Police rammed the car of a fleeing carjacking suspect and then captured the man after he crashed on I-5 Friday morning.

Arrest Of Chase Suspect Caught On Tape

Police say the suspect took the car in the Northgate area at 95th and Roosevelt and was soon spotted by officers.

Officers took aggressive action to stop the carjacker because they thought he was armed with a gun, police said.

A patrol car rammed the fleeing car into a wall on I-5, then officers wrestled the driver to the ground as he tried to run away.

The weapon the man pointed at police turned out to be a hand tool.

Witnesses say the man also pretended to have a gun when he took the car from its owner. As the carjacker fled he sideswiped three cars.

The chase ended when the fleeing car crashed near the Roanoke exit and the driver was arrested.

Video from a Department of Transportation traffic camera shows police swarming the suspect and taking him into custody.
