RENTON, Wash. —
The woman who was struck by a vehicle Saturday morning has been identified, according to the Renton Police Department.
Police said officers responded to a report of a vehicle-pedestrian collision in the 4000 block of Lake Washing Boulevard at 8:45 a.m.
Renton Fire and Emergency Services officials said a woman was struck by a car and thrown 25 to 30 feet into blackberry bushes.
The woman had critical injuries and was taken to Harborview Medical Center. As of Saturday afternoon, the woman is still unconscious and in critical condition.
Police said it appeared that the woman was either walking or jogging during the time of the incident.
According to Renton police, the driver of the vehicle was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault.
The Renton Police Department asked for the public’s help in identifying the woman. Officers said the woman mentioned her name was “Ros” or “Rose” before losing consciousness. Police described the woman as a white or light-skinned black woman and in her 30s or 40s. She was wearing light blue running shoes and white shorts during the time of the incident.
On Sunday evening, Renton police were able to identify the woman, but her name has not been released.
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Alison Grande spoke with neighbors who live near where the woman was hit.
“It makes me so sad, she had no identification because she was jogging, she didn’t have anything on her,” said Lisa Halfon, who lives near the location.
Another neighbor, Tom Hunt, watched as the driver was arrested.
“Then all of a sudden, they turned him around, put cuffs on him and put him in the patrol car,” Hunt said.
Officers spent hours investigating the scene, and the woman’s blue running shoes, a heart key chain and earphones were found at the scene.
