The ordeal began when the woman returned to her car at a rest stop in Smokey Point, in Snohomish County, to find a man inside her car, the Washington State Patrol said.

After the man ordered her to drive north on I-5, the woman used her cell phone to send a text message to her roommate, who called 911, troopers said.

Near Highway 20, the man told the woman to pull over so that he could use the restroom. He threatened to kill her if she drove off, but she fled and was found by a trooper.

Troopers are looking for a 5-foot-7 Hispanic man who was wearing a white sweater and blue jeans.

Surveillance tapes from a Conway gas station may have pictures of the man, troopers said.
