CINEBAR, Washington —

A woman waited hours for help after flipping over an eight-foot waterfall during a rafting trip with her family on a dangerous stretch of the Tilton River near Cinebar.

“We went over the edge and in the water, and flipped the boat,” said Scott, another rafter.

“I remember being in the water coming up lucky to be alive,” said Christian, who was also on the rafting trip.

But Christian’s mother, who had been on an inner tube, was seriously hurt.

“I was kind of catapulted out of my inner tube,” Christian's mother said.

She asked to remain anonymous, and Christian and Scott asked that only their first names be used.

Christian's mother's shoulder was pulled several inches out of its socket and her arm is now in a sling.

“I’ve never been in so much pain ever, I don’t know what to compare it with, and it just wouldn’t go away," she said. "You wonder how long you are gonna last but you just do, you push through."

The family spent the night in the pouring rain on the riverbanks using their raft for a blanket. The next morning, the injured woman's husband and son took off and scrambled up steep canyon walls for help.

Video showed the Coast Guard hoisting her to safety. She had suffered with her dislocated shoulder for 20 hours before she finally made it out.

“I just thank God we made it out of there and everybody is good and safe and she’s gonna be okay,” Scott said.
