Woman Walking On Tracks Dies When Hit By Train
Centralia, WA —
An Amtrak train struck and killed a woman walking on the tracks about three miles north of Centralia on Sunday afternoon.
The train, carrying 235 passengers from Portland, Ore., to Seattle, was delayed 2 hours and 50 minutes after the accident at 2:30 p.m., said Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham in Oakland, Calif.
Thurston County Sheriff's Sgt. John Price said the woman in her early 30s was walking north on the tracks and may not have seen or heard the train approaching. Price said the woman probably lived in the area.
The Thurston County Coroner's Office would not release the victim's name until her family had been notified.
