KENT, Wash. —

A head-on collision nearly killed a father and son and shut down the Kent-Des Moines Road on State at Meeker Street in Kent Tuesday morning, state troopers told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

State troopers say the driver of a PT Cruiser was going the wrong way, heading east in the westbound lane of State Route 516 and was drunk at the time of the crash.

The PT Cruiser collided with a sedan.

A father and young son in the sedan were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The father, a 47-year-old, was in serious condition with two broken legs. His son, a 13-year-old, was also in serious condition and was undergoing abdominal surgery.

The driver of the wrong-way car was apparently drunk, troopers said. The 30-year-old man was taken to Harborview and was in satisfactory condition.

He will likely be charged when he is released, police said.
