SEATTLE —

A speeding yacht killed one man and injured four other people when it slammed into the University of Washington crew house dock early Tuesday morning.

Man Killed In UW Yacht Crash

The four injured people -- two men, ages 27 and 31, and two women, 26 and 30 -- were taken to Harborview Medical Center, police said. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The dead man was not immediately identified. He was 28.

It appeared that there was no serious damage to the docks or the waterfront.

UW Police and the Seattle Police Department are investigating.

Police said the yacht was going too fast. "It appears there was probably excessive speed," said Ray Whittmier, with the University of Washington police.

Seattle police spokesman Duane Fish said the boat driver was undergoing blood tests at Harborview.

"There are indicators that alcohol may have been a factor" in the crash, Fish said.

The police confiscated the steering wheel and placed it in a plastic bag.

The wreckage was moved by a crane to prevent it from sinking.
