Snohomish County sheriff's deputies arrested the 31-year-old volunteer coach at his apartment in Lynnwood on Monday night on suspicion of second-degree child rape, deputies said. Formal charges have not been filed.

Deputies said that when officers arrived to serve a search warrant, the man came out, then went back inside and refused to leave.

Neighbors were evacuated as a precaution because the man has a gun collection and a concealed weapons permit, according to court documents.

According to the documents, the man met the boy through a woman friend. The woman came forward to police because the man is a basketball and soccer coach for a Boys and Girls Club in Snohomish County.

The man is a volunteer youth basketball coach at the Alderwood Boys and Girls Club, KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

Officials at the club told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News the coach passed a mandatory background check. They said he met the alleged victim through a female acquaintance and not through the club.

According to court documents, the 12-year-old alleged victim fell asleep in the man's living room on Sunday night.

"In the morning, the suspect asked him to get into bed with him. After a couple of minutes (the suspect) pulled down his underwear and tried to have sex with him. The victim pretended to sleep," according to the documents prepared by the prosecutor's office.

A neighbor said he often saw young children going in and out of the coach's apartment, where the coach kept toys in his bedroom.

The man is being held on $100,000 bail.
