Safeco Field Gets New Energy Efficient Scoreboard

SEATTLE —

The out of town scoreboard at Safeco Field was replaced Thursday with a new energy efficient LED board, said Rebecca Hale of the Seattle Mariners.

The new board will have full-color animation capabilities and will use only about one-tenth of the energy of the old board. The old board used incandescent bulbs and a cooling system that was in operation 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, Hale said.

The new board will be in the same position, above the bullpens in left field.

Demolition of the old board and installation of the new scoreboard began in early February and is expected to be completed by mid-March.

The Mariners' home opener is Monday, April 12, against the Oakland Athletics.
