Weather Service Issues Tsunami Advisory For West Coast

SEATTLE —

The National Weather Service has issued a tsunami advisory for the West Coast between Alaska and the California-Mexico border.

A tsunami advisory means a tsunami capable of producing strong currents or waves dangerous to people in or near the water is imminent or expected. But significant, widespread inundation is not expected.

The tsunami advisory is a direct result of the Friday night earthquake near the coast of Chile.

One-foot Tsunami waves could hit Washington by about 3 p.m. Andy Haener from the National Weather Service said. No significant coast flooding is expected.

The initial wave will not necessarily be the largest.
