Isles Lock Up Nielsen

POSTED: 8:05 am PDT July 19, 2008

(Sports Network) - The New York Islanders signed center Frans Nielsen to a new four-year contract worth $2.1 million on Saturday.

Nielsen, who was selected by the Islanders with the 87th overall pick in the 2002 NHL Draft, played in 16 games for the club last season and collected two goals with one assist. The rest of the year he played for Bridgeport of the American Hockey League, where he posted 10 goals and 28 helpers in 48 contests.

"We're excited to have Frans locked up for the next four years," said Islanders general manager Garth Snow. "We know he is going to come to training camp in great shape and ready to compete for his spot on the team."

The Danish-born player has played in 31 NHL games since making his debut on January 6, 2007. He has three goals and two assists for five points.
