Flyers Extend Contract Of F Lupul

Philadelphia, PA -- (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward Joffrey Lupul to a four-year contract extension, the team announced Monday. Per club policy, financial terms were not disclosed.Lupul, 24, recorded 20 goals and a career-high 26 assists in 56 regular season games for the Flyers last season. He also registered four goals and six assists in 17 playoff games for Philadelphia. "With the way that the salary cap is structured, we felt it was an opportunity to lock up another one of our young players and move forward," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "He is one of our young, core players that we are really high on and we look for good things to come from Joffrey." The Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta native, has 77 goals and 161 points in 293 career games over four seasons with Anaheim, Edmonton and Philadelphia. He was originally selected seventh overall by Anaheim in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by the Flyers, along with Jason Smith, from Edmonton in exchange for Joni Pitkanen, Geoff Sanderson and a third-round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft on July 1, 2007.
