Service Dog Alerts Man To Everett Trailer Fire

EVERETT, Wash. -- A barking service dog awoke his sleeping owner to discover that his trailer was on fire, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.The trailer at the Starlight RV Park in south Everett erupted in flames shortly after 6:30 a.m. Monday.The fire was quickly extinguished when fire crews arrived, but the trailer was reduced to a charred hulk.
RAW VIDEO: Chopper 7 Over Trailer FireA neighbor of the fire victim told KIRO that the man's service dog saved the trailer owner's life by repeatedly barking until the man got up and saw the fire.The owner of the trailer was transported to a hospital for smoke inhalation and another person was treated for smoke inhalation.Fire District 1 spokesman Leslie Hynes said the service dog fled but was later found. A representative from the Humane Society said they will check on the dog to make sure it is not injured.Another neighbor of the fire victim said while the trailer was on fire, bullets were exploding inside the burning trailer and whizzing by outside.An investigator from the Snohomish County Fire Marshals office determined the cause of the fire was smoking-related. He estimated damage to the trailer and possessions totaled $5,500. A neighboring trailer sustained heat damage to a door and some siding. Neither trailer was insured.
