Candidates Make Last-Minute Push For Votes

Candidates are making a last push for votes as the deadline approaches for voters to get their ballots in the mail in the primary election.

King County election officials said the first batch of results will come from approximately 180,000 ballots and will be released at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The primary will select the top two candidates to advance to the Nov. 3 general election in political races in Washington.

The Seattle mayor and King County executive are among the positions at stake.

Seattle voters also are using the primary to decide whether they will pay a 20-cent fee for grocery bags. Read the story.

Candidates for Seattle Mayor spent Monday getting out the vote.

James Donaldson campaigned at Pike Place Market. Joe Mallahan was busy making phone calls.

Polls show Mallahan in a dead heat with Mike McGinn for the crucial No. 2 slot in the primary to take on incumbent Greg Nickels in November. Polls show Nickels in the lead.

King County primary voters are selecting finalists for county executive. Recent polling shows former TV anchor Susan Hutchison leading four opponents.

The primary is being conducted entirely by mail in all counties except Pierce.
