Fisherman's Restaurant
Description: Fun and worth the trip. The passage into The Fishermans includes a stroll through an arcade with bright lights, kids' laughter, and a handsome, full-sized, operational carousel. Shannon Sterling, The Fisherman's 20-year employee and now GM, runs a most impressive establishment. She has crafted a masterpiece in eating environs. The decor is simple and solid; large, heavy wood beams demarcate the structure, with a brilliantly demure, unobtrusive staircase (remarkably in the middle of it all). There is pleasant outdoor dining (weather-permitting) with a large, cleverly designed see-through wind-breaking enclosure. Adjacent to this is an area set aside for a stage, which brings diners free live jazz, reggae and blues concerts (via Sounds on the Sound). These abound during summer, as does the outstanding fare year round.Chef Steve "Giaco" Giacomini brings wonderful appetizers including (and recommended) Northwest Crab Cakes with a cilantro-lime vinaigrette. He pays close attention to the salmon runs, and offers King, Atlantic, White King, Coho and Wild Steelhead from our various Washington rivers (Columbia, Copper, and others). The Crab Feast Style Dinner is by far the most popular, and provides the best value. It's a 4-course dinner, which starts with chowder and sourdough bread, moves on to green salad, Hood Canal clams and mussels, and ends with drawn butter and Dungeness, King and Snow Crab piled high. Highly recommended is the Alder Smoked-on-the-Pier Salmon Fettuccine. It's a smooth, rich blend of creamy alfredo sauce with sauteed mushrooms and reggianito cheese. A pleasure indeed.-- Anne Stein, for SeattleInsider.com
