New England's Cristman Wins MLS Player Of Week

POSTED: 3:42 pm PDT July 7, 2008

(Sports Network) - New England Revolution forward Adam Cristman was voted Major League Soccer's Player of the Week for Week 15, it was announced on Monday.

Cristman scored both goals in the first half of the Revs' 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday that improved the club to a league-best 10-4-3.

"They both came off set pieces," Cristman said. "The first was a corner on the left side [in the 33rd minute]. Mauricio [Castro] whipped in a great ball, and Shalrie [Joseph] got a good head on it, and made it difficult for the keeper to save it. He gave up a rebound and I hit it toward the back post. I just tapped it in. The second one [four minutes later], Steve [Ralston] served a great ball and it just came in from the back post, and I just jumped in the air and got over Abel Xavier, and just tried to get a head on it."

The Galaxy's David Beckham cut the lead in half in the 66th minute to close out the scoring.

This is Cristman's first Player of the Week selection, and it is the second week in a row that a New England player has earned the honor, with Ralston winning last week.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from The North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). Full disclosure of the votes can be found at www.soccerreporters.com.
