Chalmers Signs With Heat

Posted: 8:25 pm PDT July 9, 2008

(Sports Network) - Mario Chalmers, the 34th pick in last month's NBA Draft, has signed with the Miami Heat, the club announced Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Chalmers was acquired by the Heat in a draft-day trade with Minnesota that sent two 2009 second-round picks and cash to the Timberwolves. The guard elected to declare for the draft after three seasons at Kansas.

Chalmers was named the Most Outstanding Player of this year's NCAA Tournament Final Four, and may be best remembered for a making game-tying three-pointer with 2.1 seconds left in the national championship game against Memphis. The Jayhawks went on to beat Memphis, 75-68, in overtime.

During his time at Kansas, Chalmers averaged 12.2 points, 3.8 assists and 2.57 steals per game while shooting 48.6 percent from the field -- including a 41.9 percent mark from three-point range.
