Sixers To Test Hawks In Atlanta

(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia 76ers head to Dixie to take on Atlanta in the Hawks' home opener at Philips Arena Saturday.

The Sixers opened the season by splitting a pair of home games. After a lackluster loss to Toronto in the season-opener, the Sixers rebounded on Friday when Elton Brand poured in game-highs of 24 points and 14 rebounds to lead the team in a 116-87 rout of the New York Knicks at the Wachovia Center.

Andre Miller added 20 points, eight assists and seven boards for the Sixers, who bounced back from a 95-84 drubbing at the hands of the Raptors on Wednesday.

Willie Green and Lou Williams scored 18 and 15, respectively, off the bench while second-year man Thaddeus Young had 13 points in the win.

Atlanta was very impressive in its opener despite the absence of talented forward Marvin Williams, who was suspended for committing a flagrant foul in the Hawks' final playoff game against Boston last season.

Joe Johnson scored 25 points to go with seven rebounds, as the Hawks upset the Magic in Orlando, 99-85, on Wednesday.

Josh Smith finished with 17 points, 10 boards and four steals for the Hawks, who are coming off a season in which they made the playoffs and took the eventual world champion Celtics to a seventh game in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals before losing.

Al Horford added 10 points and nine rebounds for Atlanta, while Ronald Murray chipped in 14 points off the bench in his Hawks debut.

Williams, who averaged 14.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last season, will return against the Sixers.

Atlanta took three of its four meetings against Philadelphia last season with the only Sixers win coming in Atlanta, a 109-104 triumph on April 4.
