Posted: 2:03 pm PST February 28, 2009

(Sports Network) - The Houston Texans have signed free agent defensive end Antonio Smith, and re-signed four free agents, the team announced Saturday.

Smith had spent all five of his NFL seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, and in 2008 played in all 16 games -- starting 10 -- for the NFC champions. The 27- year-old recorded 31 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks during the regular season, and started three of Arizona's four playoff games -- including Super Bowl XLII.

In addition to bringing in Smith, the Texans re-signed tight end Joel Dreessen, defensive end Stanley McClover, center Chris White and safety Eugene Wilson.

Dreessen played in all 16 games in 2008, finishing with 11 receptions and 77 yards.

McClover was placed on injured reserve four days after the season-opener, while White played in eight games in 2008 on special teams.

Wilson recorded 63 tackles and two interceptions in 12 games -- 10 starts.
