Bronx, NY -- (Sports Network) - Josh Beckett was solid on the hill and Jason Bay hit a three-run homer, as the Boston Red Sox swept a rain-soaked, two-game set from New York with a 7-3 victory at Yankee Stadium.Beckett (3-2) gave up three runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts and tied a season low with just one walk over six-plus innings. It was Beckett's eighth win against the Yankees, which is his most against any club. Hideki Okajima and Takashi Saito pitched the final three innings without giving up a hit. "I saw some wavering times but I made pitches when I had to and we scored a bunch of runs," said Beckett. David Ortiz, Jason Varitek, Nick Green and Jeff Bailey all drove in a run for the Red Sox, who have won three of four and taken all five games with their heated rival Yankees so far this season. Boston centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury left the game in the middle of the fourth with a tight right hamstring and was replaced by Jonathan Van Every. Johnny Damon accounted for all the offense for New York with a three-run homer. Melky Cabrera extended his hitting streak to nine games with a 3-for-4 performance. Joba Chamberlain (1-1) suffered the loss after giving up four runs on six hits with two walks in 5 2/3 innings. The young righty did, however, set a career high with 12 strikeouts in the setback. "This one's on me because I came out and put us in a hole," said Chamberlain. "You just think you gotta keep your team in the game. I'm not doing my team justice if I don't go out there and give it all I got." The Red Sox solved Chamberlain early to take a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The first five batters all reached base safely, as Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia and Ortiz all singled to open the frame which produced a run. Bay followed with a two-run shot to left, and Mike Lowell singled. Chamberlain settled down and got J.D. Drew to line out and induced a 1-4-3 inning-ending double play from Bailey to end the threat. The home team got on the board in the third, as Jose Molina led off with a single and Derek Jeter followed suit before Damon belted a homer to right that made it 4-3. New York had its chances against Beckett, but the club failed to get any runs across. In the fourth, Cabrera doubled to right with one gone but was thrown out at third tying to stretch it into a triple. Ramiro Pena then doubled but Molina went down swinging to end the inning. Then with one out in the sixth, Nick Swisher walked and Cabrera followed with a ground-rule double. However, Pena went down swinging and Molina grounded out to kill the rally. Jonathan Albaladejo was on the mound for the Yankees in the eighth and, as Pena botched the grounder, let leadoff batter Bay reach first before he nabbed second. Lowell's grounder moved the runner to third and Drew was intentionally walked. Bailey was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Varitek offered a sacrifice fly to center. Green then slapped an RBI single to right which made it 6-3 and Edwar Ramirez was mercifully called in from the bullpen, he got out of the jam without further damage. Mark Melancon came in to pitch for the home team in the ninth and walked Pedroia, Ortiz and Bay to start the frame. He put himself in a 2-0 hole against Lowell before getting lifted for David Robertson, who got Lowell to go down looking and Drew to pop up. Robertson, though, walked Bailey to force in a run. Varitek grounded out to end the inning, but not before the Sox made it 7-3. Saito came in and retired the side in order in the ninth to seal the win. Game Notes The last Yankees pitcher to strike out 12 batters in a game was Mike Mussina on May 7, 2003 against Seattle...It was Beckett's third straight start giving up 10-plus hits...Prior to the game, the Yankees placed catcher Jorge Posada on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a Grade 2 strain of his right hamstring. To replace Posada on the roster, New York summoned catcher Francisco Cervelli from Double-A Trenton...The Red Sox have now won nine of the last 12 matchups in this series...New York's injured third baseman Alex Rodriguez went 3-for-6 with two homers and a single in seven innings of an exhibition game in Tampa, FL...Boston's injured pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka threw 47 pitches in 2 2/3 innings of an exhibition while fanning five and walking two.
