Baltimore, MD -- Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - J.D. Drew finished a double short of the cycle and drove in two runs, while Jon Lester turned in seven scoreless innings, as Boston downed Baltimore, 4-0, in the opener of a three-game set from Camden Yards. Dustin Pedroia knocked in a run, and Jason Varitek added two hits and drove in the other run for the Red Sox, who have won seven of their last nine games. Lester (7-6) scattered five hits while fanning eight without a walk to claim victory for his second straight start and for the fourth time in five decisions. Jonathan Papelbon recorded the final out for his 19th save. Ty Wigginton hit safely twice for the Orioles, who have dropped five of seven. Jason Berken (1-5) suffered the loss, tagged in his start for eight hits and four runs over five innings.Final Score: Chicago 6, Cleveland 3 Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Gavin Floyd pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings, leading the Chicago White Sox to a 6-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the first of three games at Progressive Field. Floyd (6-5) was spectacular in allowing only five hits with two walks and five strikeouts, lowering his earned run average to 4.12 after it had been 7.71 on May 17. Since that date, Floyd is 4-1 with a 1.37 ERA and eight consecutive quality starts. He has now yielded one earned run or less in five straight outings. Gordon Beckham recorded a career-high three hits with two runs batted in for Chicago, which has won seven of nine to move to .500 (38-38) for the first time since June 1. Chris Getz doubled twice, scored twice and drove in a run in the victory. Shin-Soo Choo hit a solo homer, while Ryan Garko hit a two- run homer -- both in the ninth for the Indians, who have lost 11 of 13 overall. Carl Pavano (6-7) was a tough-luck loser, allowing only two runs on five hits with six strikeouts in seven innings. Final Score: Tampa Bay 4, Toronto 1 Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Jeff Niemann outdueled a returning Roy Halladay in Tampa Bay's 4-1 win over the Blue Jays in the opener of a three-game set at Rogers Centre. Niemann (7-4) gave up one run on four hits over 7 1/3 innings, while Halladay (10-2), back from a groin injury that landed him on the disabled list, made just one mistake in his six innings of work, surrendering a two-run homer to Carl Crawford. Halladay, who was 7-0 in 10 previous outings, allowed five hits overall and struck out seven. Dan Wheeler went 1 1/3 innings for Tampa Bay and Randy Choate recorded the final out for his fourth save. Crawford had two hits and walked for the Rays, who have won six straight, equaling their longest streak of the season. Pat Burrell homered and B.J. Upton added a sacrifice fly. Rod Barajas drove in Toronto's only run with a single in the bottom of the eighth, one of five hits the Blue Jays mustered. Scott Rolen doubled to extend his career-high hitting streak to 17 games. Final Score: LA Angels of Anaheim 5, Texas 2 Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - Juan Rivera and Kendry Morales blasted back- to-back homers in the sixth to put the Angels ahead for good, and Los Angeles extended its division lead with a 5-2 win over the Rangers. Both Rivera and Morales had two hits, two runs batted in and a run scored to help the Angels win their sixth straight and go up 2 1/2 games on Texas in the division. Vladimir Guerrero and Bobby Abreu also added two hits apiece in the win. Sean O'Sullivan (2-0), in his third career start, allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six strong innings. The bullpen pitched three scoreless innings, and Brian Fuentes earned his MLB-leading 22nd save with a perfect ninth. David Murphy and Marlon Byrd hit back-to-back homers in the third to account for Texas' offense, as the struggling Rangers lost for the eighth time in 11 games. Vicente Padilla (6-4) was not the same pitcher that won his past three decisions, as he yielded five runs on 10 hits with two walks and five strikeouts in five-plus innings. Final Score: Kansas City 4, Minnesota 2 Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Luke Hochevar tossed seven shutout innings, and Miguel Olivo fell a double shy of the cycle, as Kansas City defeated the Twins, 4-2, in the opener of a three-game series between AL Central rivals at Kauffman Stadium. Hochevar (3-3) scattered just two hits, walked four and struck out two. John Bale surrendered a two-run homer to Minnesota first baseman Justin Morneau in the eighth, then Joakim Soria struck out the side in the ninth to notch his 10th save. Olivo drove in two runs and scored twice for the Royals, who halted a five- game losing streak at home. Alberto Callaspo and Olivo clubbed back-to-back home runs to start the sixth. Nick Blackburn (6-4) gave up three runs -- two earned -- on 10 hits over six innings to take the loss. Final Score: Oakland 7, Detroit 1 Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Ryan Sweeney finished 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI to help the Athletics defeat Detroit, 7-1, in the opener of a three- game series at the Coliseum. Matt Holliday collected two hits, scored twice and knocked in a run for Oakland, which snapped a five-game losing streak. Mark Ellis added a two-run homer. Brett Anderson (4-7) was charged with one run on four hits with four walks and seven strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. Michael Wuertz fanned four in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Gerald Laird doubled in the only run for the Tigers, who have dropped three of four. Rick Porcello (8-5) lasted 4 1/3 innings, surrendering five runs and nine hits.
