Los Angeles Clippers (4-8) At Memphis Grizzlies (2-8), 8 P.M.
(Sports Network) - The Memphis Grizzlies hope to build on their first win in two weeks when they host the LA Clippers at FedEx Forum on Wednesday night. Rudy Gay and O.J. Mayo each scored 19 points on Saturday as the Grizzlies snapped a seven-game skid with a 97-87 win over the hapless Minnesota Timberwolves. Marc Gasol added 17 points and 16 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who recorded their first win within the Western Conference in eight tries. Rookie Sam Young had 15 points -- his first double-digit performance -- and Mike Conley added 10 points and seven assists in the win. "Now we've got the feeling what it takes to win games, we've got to try and mimic that every night," said Conley. "We have to be able to come out with the same intensity and be able to play the second half like we do the first half. We normally play very well coming out of the gates, so if we can do that we have a lot of chances to get a lot of wins." Memphis then cleared up another mess on Sunday, officially releasing enigmatic guard Allen Iverson. Iverson, who signed with Memphis as a free agent in September, missed the first three games of the season with a hamstring injury before returning. He came off the bench in each of his three appearances, prompting the 10-time All-Star to express his unhappiness with the situation. He was given a leave of absence from the team on November 7 and has been away from the Grizzlies since that time. "The Grizzlies and Allen Iverson have come to a mutual agreement that because of personal matters that forced him to leave the team on November 7, Allen will step away from the game at this time, allowing him to focus on those matters," Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said in a statement. "As a result, we will be ending our contractual agreement with Allen, which will allow both parties to move forward. We wish Allen the best." To replace Iverson, the Grizz signed veteran point guard Jamaal Tinsley, who could be available tonight. Tinsley hasn't played since Feb. 5, 2008 with Indiana, but averaged 10.4 points and seven assists in seven seasons with the Pacers. The Clippers, meanwhile, fell to 1-1 on a three-game road trip in New Orleans on Tuesday when David West poured in 24 points and had 10 rebounds as the Hornets gave Jeff Bower his first coaching win in a 110-102 triumph over Los Angeles. Al Thornton scored 30, going 12-of-17 from the floor, for Los Angeles, which lost for the fourth time in five games overall. Baron Davis had 23 points on 7-of-21 shooting from the field. "We got off to a bad start in the first half, we were battling back all game," said Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy. "We got caught with a few offensive fouls. It's tough when you have a player that can't guard his man because his opponent gets bailed out for random calls. I have a hard time dealing with guys getting off the hook who aren't good defenders. We made the mistake of getting baited into it, we must learn from this and get away from traps like that." On the injury front for the Clips, reserve guard Kareem Rush suffered a torn right anterior cruciate ligament with 2:31 remaining in the first quarter last night. Rush, who is averaging 1.3 points a game, will be sidelined indefinitely. LA has won two of its past three meetings with Memphis, including a 113-110 nail-biter at Staples Center earlier this month.
