Detroit Pistons (5-6) At Portland Trail Blazers (8-4), 10 P.M.
(Sports Network) - The Portland Trail Blazers hope to bounce back from their first loss in over two weeks tonight when they play host to the Detroit Pistons at the Rose Garden. The Blazers are coming off an extremely successful 4-1 road trip but ended things on a sour note in Atlanta on Monday when Joe Johnson scored eight points in overtime, and the red-hot Hawks erased a nine-point fourth quarter deficit to cool off Portland 99-95. Rudy Fernandez had a team-high 19 points and sent the game into overtime with a buzzer-beating three in the fourth quarter for Portland, which had won six straight games prior to Monday. The Blazers also received 18 points and nine boards from LaMarcus Aldridge. "I thought we fought, and we had an opportunity in the third quarter to stretch the lead," said Blazers head coach Nate McMillan. "We had a 12-point lead, and we had about four miscues; I think (there were) couple of transitions where we didn't capitalize. We turned the ball over once or twice in that stretch and kind of lost our rhythm." Brandon Roy contributed 17 points and nine rebounds, while Andre Miller had 14 points in defeat. The Pistons, meanwhile, opened a four-game road trip in losing fashion on Tuesday when Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 40 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out five assists, as the Los Angeles Lakers held off Detroit, 106-93, at Staples Center. It was the 100th time in Bryant's career that he has scored 40-plus points in a game. And to top it off, Bryant was playing through a groin injury that he aggravated during Sunday's 101-91 loss against Houston. Will Bynum made 9-of-12 shots on his way to 24 points and handed out six assists for the Pistons, who will finish their trek with visits to Utah and Phoenix. Ben Gordon tallied 18 points while Jason Maxiell ended with 13 points and seven rebounds for Detroit, which has lost two in a row after a three-game winning streak. "Kobe is a great player. He is very special and is an outstanding basketball player. He had it going and we tried to do a number of things. When he has that rhythm going he is very difficult to guard," said Detroit head coach John Kuester. On the injury front, the Pistons remain without stars Rip Hamilton (ankle) and Tayshaun Prince (back). The Blazers, who play seven of their next nine games at home, have won two straight and three of their last four games against Detroit.
